Hi folks,

Thanks to everybody who has been kind enough to share their shop layout pics on one of my previous threads, it helped me get ideas that were very valuable and helpful! Since a good layout is critical for efficiency, i felt i was due to rethink my shop layout after my last incident, some of you will recognize their ideas in my shop, every single jig, tool and power tool will have it's own spot now and i intend to keep it that way! I should have done this planning long before... There is still a few more things to do
, but not much. Thanks

Here's my new shop!

1- Clockwise, left wall, going in



2- Pics 2-3 with that big plywood shelf on the wall





3- Arecycled futon base for upper storage and under stashing and future gobar deck



4- My center workstation on casters with plenty of shelving, the drum sander is now by the door





5- Last view of when you come in the shop's door



Just a bit of cleaning up and i'll be able to work on my rosettes without breaking anything!

Well done Serge, Looks like it's getting there.

You will find that you'll never be totally satisfied with the layout, but it will tend to get better as time goes on.

Thanks for the kind words guys, if you all remember, my drum sander used to be in the center of the shop, made life harder, but now that it's by the door, and my huge bench in the center, it already feels more positive, i'll be able to clamp everything to that centered bench and grab a tool from underneath also. A neater shop must help in having a clearer mind!!!! I could never thank you enough for all the help!

Thanks Russ, Mike and Coe, i restarted my builds right tonight, i had received my new jasper jig for rosettes, thanks to Mike Tobey, and it was so much fun for the only hour i was in the shop. i managed to take a couple of pics of the test on oak ply or veneer (that's about 3 mm thick) i performed, that stuff is usually easy to tear out but with that jig on hand, it went like a breeze! It's also the same stuff i used for my first build.

In the shop, it feels so much better already, lots a room and great energy!

Coe, if i meet you one day, it won't be a pepsi that i'll be buying ! Cheers

Vast improvement Serge well done. A cleaner shop will leave your mind clearer an more able to focus on the task at hand....think zen. Also, it's a safer place to work and that alone is worthy of the effort.

Now, I just gotta go clean up my own mess and I too will be wearing them zen sandals of success.

Yep, a cleaner shop helps especially with extension cords that are not all mixed up together. For all the newbies out there, that's what i'd recommend right from the start, A lot of problems can be avoided by taking the time to do this first.

One question.............where's all the saw dust?

You're right about that circle jig--that oak ply should have torn and splintered all over the place, but it's lookin' clean instead! Impressive. BTW, did you use a straight or spiral bit?

Carlton, i used some sort of 1/16" fluted bit my godfather gave me , i even lowered the bit a second time in the 1rst inner circle, same great result, no tear out, it is as they say, you can really operate it blindfolded! Think i better buy shares now Be prepared to hear about it again when someone asks what kind of jig we use for rosettes!
